Buzz in the air at Southport

Half Time Update

All gone very defensive here. Hawks playing a deep flood. Half time siren goes, Hawks maintain a 3 point lead. 3.3 21 plays 2.6 18.

Hard to pick a star. Buddy trying hard, and Brown always threatening. Black and Power looking sharp in the middle for the Lions.

Very happy little tiny Cats lining up against a very happy little tiny Saints in the NAB AFL Auskick grand final re-enactment at the northern end. Saints no doubt looking to make amends for last year’s grossly unfair result.

The weather is oddly Melbourne-like at Southport with a coolish swirly breeze and brilliant sun splitting the odd shower.

Both clubs are well represented in the growing crowd, as well as general AFL fans excited to see the only live AFL action on the Gold Coast in 2010 with bombers, saints, dogs, tigers and pies colours spotted around the ground.

There is a real anticipatory buzz, with schoolkids everywhere.

Umpires are on the field first, closely followed by the mighty fighting Hawks. Franklin, Roughead, and Hodge all lining up so no shortage of talent there. Lions are next with Brown a certain starter. Fev lining up a practice shot on goal and nails it despite a strong crosswind. Maybe it’s an omen for the Brisbane boys.

Everyone looking forward to a cracking game here at Fankhauser - for regular updates on the game, follow the Club on Twitter - twitter.com/goldcoastfc

Remember, GCFC members and kids under-12 get in free to the match - game starts at 3.30pm.
