Luke Russell played 11 games and will forever be remembered for kicking the winning goal in the GC SUNS first win over Port Adelaide.
Like many of his teammates, it was a great educational first season for the lightly built midfielder/half-forward who boasts good speed and a good leap and finished 2011 with three strong showings.
Russell was a standout during the GC SUNS training camp in Airizona, voted by his peers as one of the best performed at the camp.
Like team-mate Maverick Weller, Luke Russell hails from Burnie.
He was just 16 years old when he first joined the Burnie Dockers’ senior squad. He later captained Tasmania in the 2009 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships.
Draft history: 2010 17-year-old access selection (Gold Coast).
