"We recently had the Gold Coast Suns Educational Team visit our Year 1 students to deliver their Yalgan Sun Program. This was a magical experience for our students, listening to the story and learning about the local area and its links to our First Nations people. The students learnt some of the Yugambeh language and enjoyed dancing like a kookaburra or kangaroo in tune to the didgeridoo. We particularly appreciated receiving our own copy of the book Yalgan Sun written by Aunty Candace and all of our children loved receiving their own paperback copy of this book. We will definitely be inviting The Gold Coast SUNS to visit again."

The Gold Coast SUNS are excited to announce the latest offering in their suite of education programs in Yalgan SUN.

A celebration of community, culture and connection, the book tells the journey from dawn to dusk as Sunny Ray and Skye from the Gold Coast SUNS explore the mountains, rivers and places of Yugambeh Country, then into the suburbs and onto the oval to play Australia’s greatest sport – AFL football.

The beautifully illustrated children’s book is written by Yugambeh elder and Songwoman Dr Candace Kruger (Kombumerri Ngugi), together with Elders of Yugambeh community.

Complete with a collection of curriculum-aligned learning resources, this program addresses key learning areas including English, Humanities and Social Sciences, The Arts and the cross-curriculum priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures.

Aimed at Junior Primary, all participating students will receive a copy of the book and participating schools will receive a copy for their library.
