Hunt to ruffle Crow’s feathers
Karmichael Hunt says he’s ready to bounce back against Adelaide this weekend after what was originally supposed to be a short stint on the sidelines saw the key Gold Coaster miss six weeks of senior football.
“I’m very excited to be back in the senior team against Adelaide, it’s going to be a tough clash but regardless of the whether we are going to be ready to go,” Hunt told goldcoastfc.com.au after this morning’s main training session.
“Hopefully I can do my job for the team and put in a good performance.”
The 186cm utility has produced solid from through the NEAFL under Shaun Hart after returning from hamstring tendonitis, and was last night rewarded with a spot in Guy McKenna’s top 22 following a stand-out performance against the UWS Giants in Blacktown.
“I spent two weeks in the reserves after coming back from hamstring tendonitis, and while it was a bit of slow injury as I tried to build strength back it was good to eventually be back in the park with the boys gaining match fitness and form,” said Hunt.
While Hunt missed the side’s Round 23 clash last year against the Crows through to injury, the high-profile athlete is fully aware of the damage the South Australian powerhouse are capable of when the two teams meet at Metricon Stadium tomorrow.
“They’re a class side even though they're probably a bit down on form compared to where they were last year,” said Hunt.
“They’ve always given us a bit of a touch up when we’ve played them so we’d like to compete and get a win on our home deck.”
With the interstate visitors likely to come out firing after falling down to Richmond in their 38-point loss at the MCG, Hunt told goldcoastfc.com.au the GC SUNS would need to ensure they were on the front foot early.
“I think it’s crucial we get off to a good start against Adelaide,” he said.
“They are a physical team and have some big bodies in the middle so for us to be able to compete and be in the running for a win we’re going to have to nullify that early and we’re looking forward to it.
“Hopefully the sun comes out, the fans enjoy it and we have a good day out.”
