The Gold Coast SUNS are excited to welcome versatile mid/forward Maddy Brancatisano to the club for the upcoming NAB AFLW Season Eight.
Brancatisano joins the SUNS in a trade that sees Richmond receive forward Courtney Jones with the SUNS ensuring Jones’ desire to return to Victoria for family reasons was respected.
Brancatisano arrives on the Gold Coast with 32 games of AFLW experience under her belt over four seasons at Richmond after initially being drafted by Melbourne in 2018.
GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago says it’s fantastic to secure the 22-year-old’s services.
“We’re thrilled to add a player of Maddy’s quality and experience to our developing and exciting squad,” Sessarago said.
“Having played at the top level for a number of years and at just 22 years of age, we’re looking forward to watching her continue to develop in the coming years as a Gold Coast SUNS player.”
“While we are disappointed to be losing a player of Courtney’s calibre, we wholeheartedly support her decision to be alongside her family and wish her all the best in her next chapter.”
Brancatisano says she’s thrilled to begin a new challenge on the Gold Coast.
“The opportunity that has been presented to me, to join a young team that is developing every year, is a really exciting one,” she said.
“Moving interstate is massive in itself but I’m excited for that challenge and the chance to meet and work alongside a great group of players and coaches.”
The AFLW Sign & Trade period ends on Monday, March 20 with the NAB AFLW Draft scheduled for Tuesday, April 4.
