To welcome the 2016 draftees to the Gold Coast family, the SUNS Player Development team hosted all five players, their immediate families and a wide range of SUNS officials at a celebratory night at The Woollahra Hotel in Sydney.

Chief Executive Andrew Travis and Chairman Tony Cochrane both delivered impassioned speeches to the 50 attendees in the room, leaving the draftees and their loved ones excited for the future on the Gold Coast.

The draftees were also presented with their own tablets and SUNS induction app, the culmination of months of hard work for Player Development Manager Michelle Mitchell and her team.

“It was an amazing night for all the new draftees and everyone’s family and friends there,” local Palm Beach-Currumbin product and No. 67 draft pick Brad Scheer told SUNS TV on Saturday.

“Big Tony Cochrane as well gave us a great speech and really set the pathway and we know what we want in the future from the club.”

Scheer sees success just around the corner for the club he has called his own for the last five years after signing with the Academy as a 13-year-old.

“Just the young talent, especially what we’ve brought in this draft and in the last few years as well. It’s definitely a bright future.”
