Charlie Dixon and his beard are now facing a race against the clock with the Gold Coast forward set to shave off his impressive facial hair for Friedreich Ataxia Research Association (FARA) this Friday.
The charity, which delivers fantastic support to children and teenagers suffering from co-ordination disability and speech impediment, is close to the heart of Dixon as his former host sisters, Jamie-Lee and Samantha Dwyer, have lived with Friedreich Ataxia since their pre-adolescent years.
Pleasing though, the two girls have gone on to live quality and rich lives, and Dixon has made it his mission to raise much-needed funds and awareness for the charity group and hopefully have as big an impact as the Dwyers have had on him.
As of Thursday afternoon, Dixon has raised a total of $8787.70, and has his sights set on reaching the magical 10K mark.
Donate now to help Charlie reach $10,000
“The support the charity shave has received over the past four weeks has been incredible,” Dixon said.
“I can’t thank our generous members and fans enough for digging deep into their pockets, and helping raise great awareness and funds for Friedreich Ataxia.
“It really goes to show our supporters get behind their football club.”
Support for Charlie’s Charity Shave created plenty of discussion on the social media, through the hashtag #nomorebeard.
For fans yet to donate there is still plenty of time to help Dixon reach his magical milestone target, with no donations ‘too small’ according to the hulking Queenslander.
“Every dollar counts towards making a big difference in the lives of all families affected by Friedreich Ataxia.
“Be sure to keep those donations coming through, hopefully we can keep the momentum building further into the Premiership Season.”
