They have been at it for ten days in Flagstaff Arizona and while the tempo of the 2XU high performance camp has increased, remembering names and getting to know the new guys is no longer a problem for Tom Murphy, Greg Broughton, Clay Cameron and Jack Martin who according to Danny Stanley have not only adapted very well to life at the GC SUNS, but already significantly added to the group.

“They have been doing really well, just that leadership and confidence throughout the group, I wasn’t there on the canyon walk, but from all reports they led the field there and got the young boys through and that’s what we need, some boys in the eight to ten years in the system and you know just some leadership from players who have been there and played in finals so they know what to expect when it comes,” said Stanley.

The robust utility also complimentary of youngsters Clay Cameron and Jack Martin who have impressed during what has been an extremely tough introduction to life in the AFL.

“When we had the 17 year olds come through I think there was about twelve of them and so they all knew each other and it would have been a lot easier to come in through that environment, but with Clay and Jack they have just stepped in and taken everything on board and they are eager to learn and their enthusiasm has been great.”

For Tom Murphy a natural leader with finals experience, the Arizona experience has been the perfect environment to not only meet his new team mates, but also to learn their strengths and weaknesses.

"Yeah it’s been good, I have got everyone’s name down pat now and feel like I am part of the group which is great and coming on this camp has been a great chance to get to know everyone really quickly and fast tracked that induction into the footy club, so I have really been enjoying it,” Said Murphy.

Inaugural GC SUNS players Dan Gorringe and Jeremy Taylor saying the lists newest inclusions had made a great impression.

“Tom and Greg are obviously mature players already so they know what it takes and they have been really good for the group” said Gorringe.

“Jack Martin seems to be fitting in pretty well, found a few of the sessions tough but is obviously going to be a good talent and he is fitting in pretty nicely at the moment and Clay is mature for his age and will obviously add more size and strength over the pre season.”

While Taylor said the influence of Murphy had been massive on the squads younger players.

“They have taken a lot of us younger boys under their wing and just push us through sessions that we probably thought we couldn’t get through.”
