The Gold Coast SUNS played host to the 2015 Homeless Connect at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday.
This event is an initiative of the Gold Coast Homelessness Network and is proudly supported by the Gold Coast Community Fund, Gold Coast SUNS, Metricon Stadium, City of Gold Coast and 91.7 ABC Gold Coast.
“The Gold Coast SUNS are very proud to be associated with Homeless Connect for the sixth year despite us being only in our fifth AFL season,” GC SUNS GM – Stadium, Consumer and Community, Kelly Ryan, told SUNS TV.
“We’ve been actively working in the youth homelessness space since our inception as a club which we identified a couple of years ago that we had actually outgrown the space in Broadbeach.
“Therefore we opened the offer of opening up the stadium of being the new of Homeless Connect, which we’re very proud to have been able to do for the last couple of years and hope we will be able to do for many more years to come.”
In conjunction with their partners, the SUNS aim to provide those people in the Gold Coast community who are experiencing some form of homelessness or people who are at risk of homelessness with a whole range of items.
Through a wide range of kind donations from the community, the Homeless Connect event provides those in need with shampoo and conditioner, disposable nappies, feminine hygiene products, sunscreen and insect repellent, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, face washers, shoes, clothing, bottled water, canned food and gift cards.
