The NAB AFL Draft is in its 28th year and will be held for a second year in a row on the Gold Coast. It is set for the Thursday, November 21.
As an integral part of the lead-in and decision-making process, the NAB AFL Draft Combine has been part of that process for 20 years.
The brand "Combine" refers to the AFL clubs combining their resources to test talent, as well as a search for players who can combine their skills and mental toughness with the athleticism required to make the AFL. It has been part of the talent identification process since 1994 and this year will be the third time it has been held at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne. Before that, the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra hosted what was formerly known as the AFL Draft Camp.
Still under the direction of the Australian Institute of Sport, and with the athletic testing predominantly conducted on a hardwood sports performance floor, 100 outstanding prospects from all parts of Australia will show their potential at the national level Combine. In addition, to continue an exciting initiative, international players from Europe, the USA and the South Pacific will join the 105 Australia players in all aspects of his testing activities. These players have been selected after participating in the AFL International Combines held in Ireland, the USA, Fiji and New Zealand during 2011, 2012 and 2013.
A further 100 players will be tested in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth in the state level combines held in the week after the national Combine.
The NAB AFL Draft Combine is part of the NAB AFL Rising Star Program, which gives aspiring players the chance to realise their dream of playing in the AFL.
