The Gold Coast SUNS have formally interviewed James Aish and Dwayne Wilson at the NAB Draft Combine in Melbourne this week.
Many GC SUNS fans would have seen Aish and Wilson training with the GC SUNS during the 2013 season as he part of their AFL/AIS scholarship program.
The pair spent two weeks with the GC SUNS during July. In that time Wilson stayed with Jarrod Harbrow and spent time with fellow South Australian Timmy Sumner, while Aish was lucky enough to live with Gary Ablett during his visit.
At the time, Aish expressed his excitement about bunking down with he GC SUNS skipper.
“It was amazing; to see how he lives and trains, I’ve learned a lot of stuff about football but also just him as a person. I’ve certainly taken a lot out of it all,” he told goldcoastfc.com.au
Aish also outlined the success of his visit.
“The week has given me a better understanding of the preparation, backing up training is a full on business as well as just keeping back up everyday,” Aish said.
“The long hours and how to prepare for it all and get your mind going is a challenge.”
“It’s been a great insight just the professional nature of the club, and what it’ll take to make it as well.”
Aish is a smooth moving medium midfielder with excellent disposal on both sides of his body by hand or foot. Boasting rare game sense, his decision-making and composure under pressure are features of his game and won dual All-Australian honours at under-18 level.
Wilson, who hails from Murray Bridge and plays for Sturt in the SANFL, is a small midfielder with explosive leg speed and agility. A prolific ball-winner with clean hands and excellent disposal by hand or foot, he sums up the situation well and loves to take on the opposition.
The GC SUNS do not have priority access to the players, however both players impressed the club during their visit.
