BOOKMAKERS believe Gary Ablett is on track to win his second Brownlow Medal, with the SUNS captain the shortest priced favourite ever at this point of the season.
Ablett's 49 touches against Collingwood on Saturday night propelled him into $1.50 with leading bookmakers.
It's a wide gap to the next line of betting with Scott Pendlebury, Joel Selwood, Michael Barlow and Dan Hannebery considered equal $12 chances.
"No player in the history of Brownlow betting at Centrebet has been as short as $1.50 to win after round 17," spokesman Michael Felgate said.
In his 15 games this season, Ablett has notched 30 or more possessions in 11 of them. He's recorded 35 or more possessions on five of those occasions.
Ablett's prospects will also have been enhanced by the absence of injured stars including Jobe Watson and Patrick Dangerfield.
TAB also crunched Ablett in from $1.80 to $1.50 after the Collingwood game.
"Our bookies already felt he had a big lead on votes and now you can add another three, surely, after his amazing display against Collingwood," TAB’s Adam Hamilton said.
"It’s a combination of Ablett’s amazing season and injuries to his major rivals."
Ablett first won the award while playing with Geelong in 2009, polling 30 votes. The 29-year-old started the year as a $10 prospect.
"Our analysts have Ablett at least seven votes clear at this stage and going on his form $1.50 could be value for punters," Felgate said.
Ablett is recognised as the game's No.1 player in the Official AFL Player Ratings.
Meanwhile, West Coast’s Josh Kennedy continues to firm for the Coleman Medal.
Kennedy’s four-goal haul against the Swans on Sunday resulted in his odds being cut from $2.75 to $2.25.
"Jarryd Roughead booted three and remains $4 second pick, while Travis Cloke is out to $5 and Jack Riewoldt ($6) is next," Hamilton said.
