Gold Coast Football Club Captain Marc Lock has won the inaugural Club Champion Award after an impressive season where he played a vital role in the development of the new club. Lock, 18, was presented with the Award at the Club’s first Best & Fairest function held at Movie World on the Gold Coast. Lock won the award ahead of Matthew Fowler followed by Brad Rees with GCFC ruckman Zac Smith winning the award for Most Professional. Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna said Lock winning the Best & Fairest was a fantastic reward for Marc after he had taken on a number of challenges this year not only on the field. “Locky has done a great job of keeping the playing group together under pretty difficult circumstances given the situation with contracted and uncontracted players,” he said. “To carry that burden and keep the group together the way he did and his own professionalism on and off the field it is a great reward for the work he has done. “He was challenged early. We knew he could play in the backline but to help his development we played him in the midfield, he had to learn a lot and the way he responded has been rewarded. “He has had a fantastic season. He is a big player in that and has done a fantastic job.” 2009 Gold Coast Football Club Awards Best & Fairest – Marc Lock Best & Fairest 1st Runner-Up – Matthew Fowler Best & Fairest 2nd Runner Up – Brad Rees Best Finals Player – Luke Shreeve Most Professional Award – Zac Smith Goal Kicking Award – Matthew Fowler Iron Man Award – Todd Grayson Coaches Award – Mitch Harley
