Queensland Premier Anna Bligh met Gold Coast Football Club Chairman John Witheriff at the Gold Coast Stadium to launch the $60 million funding pledge for redevelopment of the Stadium.
Premier Bligh arrived during a training session for the TAC Cup squad and met the coaches and several of the playing squad.
One of the club’s first contracted players, Charlie Dixon from Cairns, showed the Premier the finer points of handling an AFL football and all local Labor Members of Parliament joined in for a photo shoot with the Premier on the ground.
The commitment towards construction of a new stadium is a significant step forward in our journey to becoming the 17th team in the AFL but also vitally important for the local economy creating much needed employment for the local building and construction industry.
