A historic week for the Gold Coast Football Club will be capped off on Saturday night when the team hits the field at Gold Coast Stadium Carrara for its first TAC Cup match.The match against Melbourne based team Eastern Ranges commences at 7pm and admission to the ground is free.
A big turnout of GCFC supporters are expected to watch the team in its first competitive match after 15 weeks of training and two practice matches in past weeks.
The club’s inaugural player launch on Tuesday became a very special occasion when AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou took to the stage and announced GCFC had been granted a provisional licence to compete in the AFL from 2011.
The team launch was also a very special occasion for the 33 young players when Coach Guy McKenna called the players to the stage and introduced them individually. McKenna then announced the starting line up for the first game.
At the conclusion of McKenna’s player presentations he introduced the club’s leadership group. Marc Lock, Zac Smith, Jesse Haberfield, Damien Steven, Todd Grayson, Jake Crawford, Charlie Dixon and Jack Stanley. He then announced the three team leaders who had been voted for by their teammates, Deputy Vice Captain Jack Stanley, Vice Captain Charlie Dixon and Captain Marc Lock.
