The Gold Coast SUNS have finalised their 2021 AFL coaching structure with Rhyce Shaw joining the club as Head of Development.

SUNS GM – Football Operations, Jon Haines, said the club is excited to welcome someone with Rhyce’s experience and skill-set to help develop its playing list.

“Rhyce is an experienced, well-respected coach who is widely regarded across the AFL industry as a wonderful developer of young men and young players,” Haines said.

“We are committed to continually enhancing our development model and Rhyce has all the attributes, skills and personality to lead a program that will help to get the very best out of our playing group.”

Shaw said he was looking forward to starting the new role and returning to football and thanked the SUNS for the opportunity.

“I am really excited to join the SUNS and to play a role in developing the group, both from an on–field and off–field perspective,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for me and my family to experience a new city and a new role at a club that is clearly heading in the right direction and I am looking forward to the challenge.

“I’ve got a great relationship with Stuey and I am excited about joining him and the rest of the coaching panel next year and seeing what we can all achieve as a club.”

Shaw will officially start with the club on Monday, 11 January when the full AFL squad returns to training.
