One of the AFL’s brightest young talents will reach the first major milestone of his career at Metricon Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Ben King will run out for his 50th AFL game against the Demons on home turf, reaching the milestone in just the 21-year-old’s third season of AFL football.
The Sandringham Dragons product, who was taken with Pick 6 in the 2018 draft, has made huge strides in establishing himself as one of the league’s most lethal key forwards throughout 2021.
After announcing himself to the AFL world in a breakout second season in 2020, in which he won the SUNS goalkicking award, King has taken his game to another level and sits perched among the contenders for the Coleman Medal.
He is yet to miss a game since making his debut in Round 9, 2019 and has caused headaches for even the league’s best defenders in 2021.
Last Saturday’s three-goal haul against the Lions was the 14th game in which he’s kicked multiple goals in 2021, highlighted by a five-goal bag against the Swans back in Round 6, with his season tally sitting at 43 majors.
His career tally of 76 has pushed him inside the SUNS’ top-10 all-time goal kickers.
An intriguing match-up against Demons fullback Steven May awaits as the SUNS look to return to the winner’s list on Saturday.
