Gold Coast vice-captain Tom Lynch has been awarded a 2014 AFL Mark of the Year nomination after his spectacular pack mark in the last quarter of Saturday’s match against West Coast.
The in-form spearhead delivered one of the grabs of the season, timing his run perfectly before soaring for the crucial mark in the middle of a pack of six players.
Given the context of the game, no mark was more important throughout the four quarters.
Lynch went back and converted the shot from 30m out, handing Gold Coast the lead for the first time since midway through the first quarter.
Unfortunately, Lynch’s brilliant effort wasn’t enough to hand the side its eighth win of the season as the Eagles went on to celebrate as victors.
Lynch joins Adelaide’s James Podsiadly and Carlton’s Levi Casboult as the three chosen nominees for round thirteen.
If successful, he will become the second Gold Coast player to be recognised for the gong after key forward partner Sam Day was voted the round four winner.
