1. A test of Brendon Bolton's resolve
How long until Jacob Weitering gets a run up forward? The thought must have crossed Brendon Bolton's mind one-hundred times or more throughout the summer, the NAB Challenge and in the first weeks of the season proper. Bolton pondered as much during a radio interview a fortnight ago, and the case is mounting for the Weitering to help fix a stagnant Carlton forward line. The Blues managed just five goals from 49 inside 50s against the SUNS, after ten from 44 a in round two against the Swans. It might be a classic case of robbing Peter to pay Paul, but with Levi Casboult still struggling to kick straight and Charlie Curnow finding his fit, Weitering's composure or sure kicking has to be worth a look.

2. The most nervous man on the Gold Coast
Well, he was for a minute or two anyway. We reckon the Gold Coast runner would have avoided the phone for a few minutes after costing his team a goal and without doubt earning the wrath of Rodney Eade. The incident happened with 15 minutes remaining in the second quarter, the SUNS streaming through the middle towards a certain goal. A quick blow of the whistle changed all that with the Blues awarded a free kick and a 50-metre penalty after the runner was caught up in the play. Zach Tuohy goaled for a classic 12-point turnaround and took the Blues to within a goal.

3. The 189-week wait
For the first time in its history, Gold Coast has started a season with three straight wins. And for the first time in 189 weeks the SUNS have beaten the Blues. You read that write: 189 weeks, or a dribble over 1.9 million minutes if you're so inclined. Way back in round 22, 2012, the young SUNS shocked the Blues, ending their finals chances and, a few days later, the tenure of then coach Brett Ratten. The SUNS join the Swans as the only undefeated team in 2016 (with the Bulldogs a possibility to join them on Sunday), with the chance to continue their perfect start against the Brisbane Lions in round four.

4. They'll be coming for Daisy
One of the more pronounced trends of the early weeks of this season has been former players and media commentators lining up to slam the performances of some of the game's highest profile players. Travis Cloke had his turn in round one, while Trent Cotchin and Jesse Hogan were round two's targets. Blue Dale Thomas had his turn before the premiership campaign was underway with his kicking and his future at the highest level questioned following Carlton's final NAB Challenge match, but the barbs might be headed his way again. Thomas had a night to forget at Metricon with his kicking especially poor. In Daisy's defence, he wasn't on his own in a forgettable night for foot skills.

5. Do you want my shorts?
Injured Gold Coast star Jaeger O'Meara fronted the host broadcaster's cameras before the game and, of course, was questioned about whether or not he'll stay a SUN long-term. O'Meara didn't shed much more light than he already has on his future – he's focussed on returning to playing and has instructed his manager to refrain from discussing him with rival clubs – but he did share a gem about Rodney Eade. "Rocket a couple of times has walked passed me and has asked me if I wanted his Hawthorn shorts out of the back of his car," O'Meara revealed. Eade played in four premierships with the Hawks, the club rumoured to be very keen to lure O'Meara south.
