It’s the news Gold Coast SUNS fans have been waiting for - the troops are on their way back, and the much anticipated light at the end of the tunnel isn’t just peeking in, it’s flat-out blinding.
Up to 11 players that missed last week with injury, a quarter of the SUNS playing list, are set to return to action with a number in line for senior selection.
Callum Ah Chee, Dan Currie, Sam Day, Mitch Hallahan, Kade Kolodjashnij, Jack Leslie, Trent McKenzie, Touk Miller, Matt Rosa, Alex Sexton and Rory Thompson are all listed at tests this week and will be available if they can get through Thursday’s main training session at Metricon Stadium.
“I guess the big positive this week is there’s a lot of players are due to play once they get through training tomorrow night,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.
“Our plans are that up to 11 hopefully are available for Saturday. Some will play reserves, some will play seniors but the ones that just missed last week in Sam Day, Kade Kolodjashnij you would think would come straight back in.
“Touk Miller, Matt Rosa, Alex Sexton are others if they get through training tomorrow will come straight into the senior side.
“I know we spoke last week about Rory Thompson, he just missed coming back playing in the twos. We took the conservative approach but the plan this week is for him to come back and play reserves, along with Trent McKenzie and Mitch Hallahan.”
