Midfielder Jesse Lonergan is set to return to footy this week after missing the past two games with glandular fever.
The Tasmanian last played in round 12 against Richmond and is a good chance to play at some level this Saturday provided he can get through training on Thursday.
“It’s been an interrupted last couple of weeks for Jess, he’s been ill and not being able to train and be ready to play,” GM – Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.
“But he’s overcome that and he finished his first main session today, will do that again on Thursday and be expected to play on the weekend.”
Meanwhile, Matt Rosa has been ruled out for a couple of weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the first quarter of the 40-point win over St Kilda.
“Disappointing for Matt. He’s had a couple of hamstring injuries this year,” Ashcroft said.
“The one he suffered on the weekend’s not major, hopefully only keep him out for two to three weeks.”
Veteran Danny Stanley’s 2016 season is over after the midfielder fractured his fibula in the reserves win over Southport.
Stanley has played 83 games in SUNS colours but has yet to make an appearance at senior level this year.
“It’s unfortunate for Danny. He’s been a part of our club for a long period of time, joined us in our VFL year, been a great stalwart and a great ambassador for the Gold Coast community,” Ashcroft said.
“So for Danny, it looks like he will miss the remainder of the year and I guess from his point of view, a lot of his teammates have got around him and hopefully the guys can finish off on a good note.”
