Fifteen weeks into the 2016 season, forward Jarrod Garlett had just one senior game to his name and looked to have an uphill battle ahead of him to secure a place in Rodney Eade’s best 22.
After receiving a call up for the QClash in round 16, the West Australian has strung together four consecutive games with his best performance coming against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday.
Garlett booted two goals with his second major showing his immense class, roving the Sherrin off the back of a pack and calmly snapping it through.

Forwards coach Ashley Prescott told reporters on Monday afternoon Garlett is certainly a part of the club’s plans moving forward.
“Jarrod’s really a part of our plan. He’s a fantastic young man and look, he’s a second-year player that’s growing and learning and improving every week,” Prescott said.
“He kicked two goals but what we love about Jarrod is his tackle pressure, his ability to chase, his ability to consistently play his role and bring other players into the game.
“He’s a really exciting young man Jarrod and he’s got a bright future ahead of him.”
Selected with pick No. 15 in the 2014 national draft, Garlett still needs a pre-season or two in the gym to develop his body to withstand the rigours of life at the top level.
But it’s a challenge the 20-year-old has taken on with a smile on his face as he looks to improve as a footballe.
“He’ll only get better as he gets stronger and more physically developed,” Prescott said.
“He’s an elite runner Jarrod, his ability to get up and down the ground consistently is tremendous and look, he’s had his challenges as do a lot of young players but he’s really comfortable here.
“It’s great to see a smile on his face and he’s enjoying his football and I know his teammates really respect the way he’s been going about it of late.”
