Despite being six days into a 10-day away trip in Western Australia, SUNS forward Ben Ainsworth says his preparation hasn’t been different to any other week.

The SUNS landed in Perth last Thursday, played on Saturday at Optus Stadium against Fremantle and are now implementing their regular training program this week as they prepare to face West Coast in round four.

“It’s obviously pretty exciting for the boys coming over here for the 10 days and mingling with one another,” Ainsworth told SUNS TV.

“We’re just trying to concentrate on the week ahead, obviously West Coast on Saturday night at 6:10 so we’re doing everything normal and preparing as normal as we would back on the Coast.”

The SUNS were below their best against the Dockers and looked a different side to the one which had dominated in contested football and forward pressure over the opening two rounds.

But according to Ainsworth, getting back to winning ways is as simple as looking at and addressing the factors they can control.

“There’s just a few mechanics that probably went wrong on the weekend and it’s easily fixable so hopefully we can get out there on the weekend and implement our game plan a little bit better,” he said.

“I’m sure we’ll go about our business the same way.”

The 20-year-old is coming off an interrupted 2017 season where a corked quad limited him to just 13 games.

But the explosive forward is back to full fitness this season and is expected to start playing a different role on the field.

“I think a full pre-season probably helped leading into the 2018 season,” Ainsworth said.

“(I’ll be) spending a little bit more time in the midfield hopefully in the next couple of weeks so it’s just building on the tank and developing around the guys like Dave Swallow, Jack Martin, Lynchy and a few others.”
