Queensland’s AFL community will be urged to dig deep to give much-needed relief to drought-stricken farmers during Saturday’s QCLASH 16 at Metricon Stadium.
The Gold Coast SUNS and Brisbane Lions will join forces to help raise funds and drive awareness for the Queensland Drought Appeal.
With over 57% of Queensland being drought-declared Gold Coast SUNS Chief Executive, Mark Evans, said the club will use this Saturday’s QCLASH to help support the cause.
“The drought is affecting so many Queenslanders and we want to play our role in helping raise funds and drive awareness at Metricon Stadium on Saturday,” Evans said.
All fundraising efforts during the game will be donated to the cause, including the stadium wide raffle, donations and volunteer tin rattlers.
“There will be a number of different initiatives throughout Metricon Stadium which will focus on raising money for the cause.
“I’d encourage all SUNS fans and football supporters across the country to give generously to the Queensland Drought Appeal,” Evans added.
Gold Coast SUNS Senior Coach Stuart Dew was joined by Lions counterpart Chris Fagan at Metricon Stadium on Wednesday afternoon to launch the club’s efforts.
Queensland Drought Appeal media partners, the Courier-Mail and Sunday Mail will highlight the stories of the drought across the Ekka and during the appeal, while the Seven Network will host a 7 News special, The Queensland Drought Appeal, live from regional Queensland on Saturday, September 1, at 7pm.
