After playing all 22 games in 2017, Martin was having another good year on the field last year until a calf injury ended his season early in Round 17. Martin had played every game but one (Rd9 v Port Adelaide) up until that point, playing a mixture of half-forward and half-back roles under Stuart Dew. Finishing tenth in the SUNS Club Champion award, Martin was one of Gold Coast’s most consistent players across his 15 games, averaging 18 disposals, five marks and almost a goal per game. Now back to full fitness, the biggest question mark surrounding Martin in 2019 is where he can play his best football. The 24-year-old is entering his sixth season in the AFL and has excelled at both ends of the ground, but has spent increasing amounts of time in the midfield in recent years. Wherever he plays, Stuart Dew can be assured Martin will still find plenty of the football and play his role for the team.At A Glance Player Honours: 3rd best and fairest 2016, 2017; NAB AFL Rising Star nominee 2014. Brownlow Medal: Career votes 1. Junior Club: Claremont (WAFL) Draft History: GWS Giants Trade Incentive Rule selection 17-year-old access (Gold Coast) No. 1.
