Round 23 of the Toyota AFL Premiership Season was confirmed by the AFL this evening with the date, time and venue locked for the SUNS final game of the season.
Speaking after the Round 22 match against Essendon, Senior Coach Stuart Dew said the club would be looking at the opportunity Round 23 provides.
“We spoke post-game with the players around we want to be in a position that come Round 23, in the not too distant future, we're looking at a finals game, the following week,” Dew said.
“We're about to play a footy club that values the contest, plays finals like footy and are in good form.
“We don't want to shy away from the challenge that's ahead of us and actually look forward to carrying that responsibility.
“That's going to be a message this week.”
AFL Executive General Manager Clubs and Broadcasting Travis Auld said he was excited about the matches in Round 23.
“We are really looking forward to what is shaping up to be a blockbuster final round of the home-and-away season,” Mr Auld said.
“It is a tight race to the finish and while the pandemic will continue to challenge us over the coming weeks, as an industry, we will continue to adapt as we navigate those challenges.
“We will continue to make changes that best manage the current environment, progresses our season and protects the health and safety of those in our game and the wider community."
Victorian Members and fans unfortunately won’t be able to attend the game this Saturday with crowds still unable to attend Stadium’s in the state.
