An clinical nine-goal fourth quarter has paved the way for Gold Coast SUNS reserves to clinch arguably their best win for the 2013 Season, overcoming a 19-point deficit to register an impressive 21-point victory over the UWS Giants in Blacktown yesterday morning.
It was a difficult start for Shaun Hart’s NEAFL squad, unable to make the most of their opportunities around goals and trailing by nine-points at the first break.
While the NEAFL SUNS fought hard to stay in the contest, it wasn’t until Hart delivered his final address at the three-quarter time huddle that his troops begin to apply their own scoreboard pressure.
A lift in intensity and forward pressure saw the Gold Coasters concede just one major during the final stanza whilst punishing the Giants at every opportunity to record one of the team’s most inspiring victories.
After building match fitness and conditioning in recent weeks following his twelve month rehabilitation from an ACL injury, Seb Tape finished among the side’s best on-field performers – providing a steadying influence as the last line of defence.
With Tom Lynch set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines, Steven May is likely to come into contention for a first team recall after the Northern Territorian finishing with an impressive haul of six goals.
The Gold Coast seconds will now enjoy a well deserved mid-season break, before taking the trip up north for their Round 15 clash against the NT Thunder at TIO Stadium.
