The Gold Coast SUNS are pleased to confirm Foundation Member David Whelan as the winner of the club’s Plungie Play promotion at Metricon Stadium.

Thanks to Official Coaches Partner Plungie, David has won a Plungie Max pool including install and delivery valued at up to $33,000.

Plungie are Australia’s largest manufacturer and supplier of pre-cast concrete plunge pools and developed the three-quarter time activation as a way to reward loyal GC SUNS Members with the chance to kick to win their very own Plungie pool.

Participants had four kicks each from the boundary line towards the Metricon Plungie Pool Deck, earning various points depending on where their footies landed.

David had been the leader since Round 8 and was the only contestant to land a footy in an inflatable in the pool; scoring himself a high score of 36 points.

With the relocation of the club’s final home game, a surprise video call was arranged with SUNS midfielder Brandon Ellis and Ben Petersen from Plungie to break the news to David.

“I used to play footy when I was young and I could kick so I was confident I’d do well but then I just got super nervous because I thought I’d choke,” David said.

“But it was a great experience and the kids will love it.”

“I don’t think there’s a more fitting winner so now Dave can host his own Plungie Play in his own backyard.”

The announcement ties in with the SUNS Festival of Members, where over the past few weeks the club has acknowledged and celebrated members for their contribution to the SUNS this season.
