The Gold Coast Football Club were out in the community last week to support one of the biggest events on the Coast over the weekend, the Mothers Day Classic Fun Run held at Main Beach.
With over 100,000 participants taking part throughout Australia, event organisers were overwhelmed with the 3000 participants who took part locally on the Gold Coast.
Numbers for the Classic have doubled since last years inaugural race which saw just over 1500 take part in the first week of May.
The Gold Coast Football Club were in full support on the day entering a team which amazingly included Head Coach Guy Mc Kenna, who took part in the 4 km run. Mc Kenna who seriously broke his leg in a freak training accident in March breaking both bones in his leg was remarkably able to complete the course along with a dozen other staff from the club who took part in the 4 or 8 km event.
GCFC will also donate $10 of every $45 adult membership purchased at the fun run to breast cancer research.
The club will continue on its theme of women in football in May, when next week it will sends out players out to Somerset College for an “All Girls” Auskick centre which will include over 50 participants using purely pink footballs receiving their all pink backpacks.
