The Gold Coast SUNS will be without a new recruit for the Round 2 match against West Coast on Sunday afternoon.
Claudia Whitfort played her first game for the club in Round 1, but presented with concussion symptoms after the match and has subsequently entered the mandatory 12-day concussion protocol.
“Claudia had a head knock in the second quarter on the weekend and was assessed at the time but was cleared to play out the game after passing all the relevant tests,” SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Jasmine Herlihy said.
“We continued to monitor Claudia and after the game she presented with progressive concussion-like symptoms.
“As a result Claudia won’t be available this weekend but if she progresses through the protocols as expected she should be cleared to return in Round 3.”
Second-year midfielder Lucy Single sustained a minor ankle injury in training last week which saw her miss the Round 1 clash against GWS.
Herlihy said Single had recovered well since the injury and would be a test for Round 2.
“Lucy sustained an ankle sprain after landing awkwardly in a training drill last week and we took a cautious approach which saw her miss the game on the weekend,” Herlihy said.
“Her swelling has reduced considerably and if she is able to train fully this week we expect she should be available for selection.”
