For the first time in club history the Gold Coast SUNS will wear a dedicated pride guernsey in the AFLW’s Pride Round this weekend.
The guernsey, which features the rainbow often associated with Pride, was helped designed by SUNS AFLW players Sarah Perkins, Britt Perry, Jade Pregelj and Hannah Dunn.
“It’s really special for us to have our first guernsey as a (dedicated) Pride guernsey,” Perkins said.
“The inclusiveness that we all feel, to have it reach the wider community of the LGBTQI+ community and keep getting that visualisation out there is really important for us as a club (to show our support).
“It’s the first Pride guernsey that I’ve ever been able to play in so I’m really looking forward to it.”
As a club, the SUNS are honoured to celebrate Pride Round and acknowledge it is another step towards welcoming diversity, being a more inclusive game, and ensuring it is a place of welcome for everyone.
As part of the dedicated round, field and boundary umpires will also wear rainbow-coloured sweatbands while goal umpires will exchange their traditional white flags for rainbow ones.
SUNS AFLW members have a chance to win one of three exclusive Pride Round guernseys signed by the AFLW team. Click here for more info.
