Foundation SUN Jamie Stanton has been awarded third-place in the 2022 SUNS AFLW Club Champion.
In her sixth season of AFLW football, the midfielder finished in third place on 218 votes, trailing eventual Runner-Up Charlie Rowbottom (236 votes) and winner Alison Drennan (237 votes).
Stanton was the inaugural winner of the SUNS Club Champion award in 2020 and has continued to develop her game whilst also being the most experienced member of the roster with 46 career games to her name.
In 2022 Stanton had a role change which saw her responsible for negating the opposition’s best midfielder each week.
The new responsibility saw her average career-high numbers in tackles this season, averaging 5.6 per game.
The SUNS leader also finished in the top 25 in the competition in both kicks and tackles as well as topping the SUNS for metres gained per match with 287.8.
The 26-year-old’s strongest performance of the season came in the Round 4 victory over Richmond, where Stanton won 20 possessions of her own while also limiting the influence of star Tiger Monique Conti.
After another consistent season Stanton will be looking forward to continuing to lead by example for the SUNS as she approaches the 50-game milestone next season.
