Co-captain Jarrod Witts was immense in the ruck throughout the contest, finishing with 44 hitouts and 14 disposals and playing a pivotal role in the SUNS final-quarter push.
In just their second and third games respectively, Mac Andrew and Elijah Hollands showed exactly why there’s so much excitement around the young pair with performances well beyond their years.
Andrew finished with 14 disposals in a strong showing across defence with his eight marks only bettered by Hollands (9) who finished as one of two multiple goalkickers for the SUNS to go with a career-high 23 touches.
After moving into the midfield after half-time, the experienced David Swallow was immense at the contest with a remarkable 14 touches in the third term alone, before finishing with a game-high 33 disposals along with seven tackles and six clearances.
Another of the SUNS experienced brigade in Brandon Ellis was involved in just about everything throughout the opening half before playing a key role behind the ball as the SUNS pushed late in the final term. He ended with 30 disposals, 23 of those coming off the boot.
Noah Anderson was another SUN who battled tirelessly to reel in the Hawks, winning plenty of the ball and gaining plenty of ground, finishing with a team-high 580 metres gained from his 26 touches.
Jy Farrar’s trademark pressure and run across half-back was on display, regularly creating overlapping runs and relieving pressure for his side.
