Jared Brennan has been ruled out of action for the next two weeks after scans revealed he sustained a medial ligament strain in his left knee against Hawthorn at the MCG on the weekend.

Brennan sent an injury scare through the SUNS camp mid-way through the final term, after twisting his knee underneath an opposition player whilst fending off the tackle.

The 167-game veteran was immediately assessed by medical staff after being taken off the ground, and while early diagnosis indicated it was a medial ligament injury, Brennan underwent scans on Monday to determine the full extent of the injury.

GC SUNS General Manager of Football Operations – Marcus Ashcroft, updated goldcoastfc.com.au on Brennan’s injury.

“Jared injured his knee in the fourth quarter against the Hawks on Sunday afternoon, underwent scans this afternoon which revealed a medial ligament strain in his left knee,” said Ashcroft.

“We anticipate Jared’s injury will keep him sidelined for the next two weeks, and expect that he will be available for senior selection for our match against Essendon at Etihad Stadium.”

Elite teenager Jesse Lonergan is expected to be available after the mid-season break after scans revealed the 18-year-old sustained a grade-two hamstring strain mid-way through the third quarter on Sunday afternoon.
