The Gold Coast SUNS have made an update to its AFLW list with Alana Gee placed on the inactive list for the upcoming season.
Gee, a SUNS Academy product who was taken with the SUNS’ first pick in the 2022 NAB AFLW Draft, will work closely with SUNS coaches and staff to continue recovering from a stress reaction in her back.
The 18-year-old joins Jade Pregelj, Madison Levi and Teagan Levi on the inactive list.
The opportunity now beckons for fellow SUNS Academy and Mackay product Kaylee Kimber who has been added to the SUNS AFLW list for Season Seven.
The versatile teenager has risen through the ranks of the SUNS Academy, representing Queensland at the 2022 AFLW Under 18 Championships as well as impressing for Southport throughout the QAFLW season.
“It’s disappointing to lose Alana (Gee) for the upcoming season,” SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.
“She’s one of the finest young talents and we see her has a long-term player here at the SUNS, so the decision has been made to ensure she’s able to play her best football for years to come.
“It provides a fantastic opportunity for Kaylee, another young talent from Mackay who has developed through our Academy pathways and earned her opportunity to join our AFLW list for this season.”
Kimber, who will be one of 16 SUNS Academy graduates on the list for Season Seven, says she’s thrilled to have the opportunity.
“It’s very exciting, everything has happened so quickly,” Kimber said.
“There’s lots of good people around me here at the club helping me to develop as a player. To debut in my first season would be great but I’m just really looking forward to taking my game to this new level with my new coaches and teammates.”
The SUNS open its AFLW Season Seven campaign next Saturday, August 27 against North Melbourne in Hobart.
