With midfielder Anthony Miles set to miss Round 18 through suspension, Gold Coast’s match committee will be forced into at least one change to the team to take on Carlton.

George Horlin-Smith is a strong candidate to replace Miles in the midfield, allowing for a shuffle which would push Will Brodie into a full-time mid role with Horlin-Smith on the wing.

Being the non-playing emergency for Round 17 would suggest Jacob Dawson is close to cracking in for his first senior game of 2019 after being one of the most consistent NEAFL players this year.

Draftee Jez McLennan had another strong game on the weekend with 17 disposals and four marks which could earn him a debut in defence.

Corey Ellis has been similarly consistent since being omitted from the senior side and could offer some more poise coming out of the backline.

Key forward Peter Wright played substantial minutes in the ruck with 41 hitouts in the NEAFL loss to Sydney Uni but also managed to kick two goals which would put his name in discussions.

SSP signing Sam Fletcher and mid-season draftee Mitch Riordan both had solid games with 18 and 20 disposals respectively and could be in the mix.

Chris Burgess hasn’t played senior football since Round 12 but could be another option after looking comfortable in defence in the NEAFL.

Who do you think is in the mix?
