Charlie Rowbottom has added another accolade to her growing resume, named in the AFL Players’ Association AFLW 22Under22 Team.
The dominant midfielder was a popular choice in the fan-selected line-up, selected in 84.05% of teams – the second-most of any player in the extended squad. The selection is Rowbottom’s second in as many seasons.
Following Season Seven, the 20-year-old has already taken out her maiden SUNS Club Champion to go with selection in the extended AFLW All-Australian Squad.
Rowbottom was the SUNS’ leader for disposals (22.5 per game), clearances (6.2 per game), tackles (6.9 per game) whilst also finishing among the league’s best in contested possessions (13.7 per game).
“Charlie has just improved again this season. Her clearance numbers and uncontested possessions has really gone up which is a credit to the work she’s been doing off track – extra conditioning, extra sessions in the heat room – she’s really driven that,” Head Coach Cameron Joyce said.
“Her connection with Lauren Bella and the other mids has also allowed her to grow her game which is fantastic.”
Rowbottom, alongside Vivien Saad, is also in contention for AFLW All-Australian team selection which will be announced at tonight’s W Awards. The awards will be broadcast live on Fox Footy from 6.30pm QLD time.
