The Gold Coast SUNS and Metricon Stadium today hosted the 11^th annual Homeless Connect Event, the sixth consecutive year it has been held at the venue.

Homeless Connect allows Gold Coasters who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness to access a variety of community services including health and wellbeing, legal advice and counselling.

Those who attended had the opportunity to enjoy free haircuts, clothing, manicures, live entertainment, food and even a petting zoo.

Gold Coast SUNS players volunteered their time to serve food and learn more about the stories people were able to share.

“We’ve been supporting the cause for I think nine years now and it’s great to be put on here at Metricon Stadium,” Jack Bowes told SUNS TV.

“We’re huge on community at the SUNS and it’s just another way, a small way really, to give back to the community.

“If we can do little things like this to put smiles on people’s faces, it’s the least we can do.”

The Homeless Connect event is an initiative of the Gold Coast Homelessness Network and is proudly supported by the Gold Coast Community Fund & Gold Coast SUNS in conjunction with many other local businesses and supporters.

SUNS CEO Mark Evans said it was inspiring to see Gold Coasters come together for a common cause. 

“If you think about everything we do, really it’s about people,” Evans said.

“I think you can measure the goodness of a community by what it will do for people who are in need of extra help.

“To all of those people here who are volunteers… on behalf of the Gold Coast SUNS and everyone involved, you’re inspiring with what you do and we thank you for what you’re doing.”
