The Gold Coast SUNS could be boosted by the return of a senior player ahead of Round 2 against Essendon at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
Running defender Lachie Weller has been cleared to return to action and will be available for selection.
“Lachie has been training fully for a month now and has exceeded every challenge set for him throughout his rehabilitation and reconditioning following his injury,” GC SUNS Head Physiotherapist Lindsay Bull said.
“Lachie has put in a tremendous amount of hard work and had his sights firmly set on a return to play early in the season.”
Top draftee Bailey Humphrey has been sidelined with a foot injury in recent weeks, but after re-integrating to training is also set to return to play this weekend.
“Bailey’s foot has healed and he has been back into training with the main group so he will be available for selection this weekend,” Bull said.
Wil Powell (hamstring) has re-integrated back into main training and will be a test for this weekend.
Vice-captain Sam Collins left the field for a head injury assessment in the weekend’s match against Sydney, but was cleared and will be available this week.
Experienced defender Sean Lemmens is also nearing the end of his rehab period and is one week away from a return to play.
