Jack Martin announced himself on the big stage on Saturday against Fremantle with an outstanding performance in the SUNS’ 26-point win.
Martin booted four goals and recorded a career-high 11 marks in what many have described as a breakout game for the 21-year-old.
But the best is still yet to come, with coach Rodney Eade revealing he sees the West Australian playing a midfield role later in 2016 once Martin gets his fitness to where it needs to be.
“There’s no doubt. We’d like to play him in the midfield, we had five of our midfielders tonight, obviously there is Jaeger [O’Meara] and David [Swallow] to come back,” Eade told reporters in his post-match press conference.

“Touk Miller is another one we can play so we have six. But we’d like to get Jack in there as well because he’s such a competitive beast. He’s had a bit of up and down pre-season so his fitness hasn’t been where we’ve wanted it, a couple of little niggles here and there but he’s just starting to gain that so I think over the next few weeks we’d like to get him through the middle.
“That’s probably a taste of what can come. But the pleasing thing with Jack is, as I said before, he’s so competitive.
“He’s not a flighty opportunist, he makes things happen.”
