SUNS Academy trio Jed Walter, Jake Rogers and Ethan Read will get another test against state league opposition on Saturday evening in Melbourne.
The three boys are members of this year’s AFL Academy squad which will take on Carlton’s VFL side as the Australia Under 18 team at Marvel Stadium this Saturday.
The match will be played as a curtain-raiser to the Round 9 AFL match between Carlton and Western Bulldogs, first bounce at 4.10pm AEST.
It’s the Australia Under 18 side’s second outing against state league opposition in 2023 having taken on Port Adelaide’s SANFL side during Gather Round in Adelaide.
All three SUNS boys featured in that match with both Walter and Rogers hitting the scoreboard and 202cm ruck prospect Read showing his talents both in the air and at ground level throughout.
National Academy Manager, Tarkyn Lockyer, said: “We are thrilled to provide another opportunity for the AFL Academy Boys to represent Australia.
“It is a significant honour to wear the Australia jumper and all players represented it with distinction in the match against Port Adelaide during Gather Round last month.
“We look forward to the future stars of our game putting their talents on show again against Carlton at Marvel Stadium on Saturday.”
The match between the AFL Academy Boys and Carlton VFL will be available to watch live and free on the AFL website.
The AFL Academy Boys will take part in their third and final camp of the 2023 program in Melbourne this week, with the camp to commence on Thursday.
