Gold Coast SUNS Academy recorded a perfect two from two in Sunday afternoon’s Coates Talent League matches against the GWV Rebels.
The Academy Girls got the afternoon off to a perfect start, comfortably accounting for the Rebels 8.10 (58) to 1.3 (9) before the Boys overcame a slender quarter-time deficit to run out 10.11 (71) to 8.6 (54) victors.
The Girls won each quarter on its way to the 49-point win, highlighted by a four-goal-to-none second term. Seven different players got their name on the scoreboard with Alannah Welsh being the game’s only multiple goal kicker as the SUNS’ fitness and physicality shone through.
In the Boys outing, AFL Academy member Jed Walter led the way in front of goals with five majors as the SUNS’ won every term bar the first, extending on its 10-point half-time lead at each break.
The result was the SUNS Under 18 Boys side’s first ever win in Melbourne and was their final Coates Talent League match of 2023 ahead of the U18 National Championships beginning next month.
The Girls next face the Western Jets at Brighton Homes Arena on Saturday afternoon, 2pm first bounce.
