The Gold Coast SUNS will finish the 2014 AFL home and away season with a Sunday afternoon clash against the West Coast Eagles at Metricon Stadium on August 31.
The match, which is scheduled to start at 1:10pm, is one of three games set down for the last day of the premiership season following the release of the final round draw by the AFL.
Eight of the nine matches in round 23 feature teams which are currently in contention for a top-eight spot. The Western Bulldogs vs GWS Giants match-up at Etihad Stadium is the only game in which neither side has a chance of making the finals, with that battle scheduled as the final clash of the round.
Preference has been given to teams currently in the top eight with their matches scheduled on the Friday night (Collingwood vs Hawthorn) and throughout Saturday.
Gold Coast SUNS CEO, Travis Auld, said the club is looking forward to another strong turnout at Metricon Stadium for the Eagles clash.
“Our club is really pleased with the timeslot we’ve been given for the final round of the home and away season,” Auld said.
“This will be the fourth year in a row we’ve run the final home game of the premiership season as a ‘Thank You’ round, as it gives us an opportunity to show our members and fans how much the club appreciates their support. This has been really well received in past years and we think our fans will come out again in big numbers to celebrate what has been a fantastic year.
“We have had amazing support for the team in 2014, including a ground record crowd when Collingwood visited in early July, so it would be great to see another great turnout for the last home and away game of the season.”
