The Gold Coast SUNS have added Tasmanian product Elise Barwick to its AFLW list as an injury replacement player.
Barwick joins the SUNS from South Adelaide Football Club after SUNS Academy product Kaylee Kimber was moved to the inactive list for the 2023 season with a foot injury.
The 24-year-old is an athletic midfielder/forward who uses her speed and tenacity to impact games, as seen both in Tasmania with North Hobart and the SANFLW with South Adelaide in recent seasons.
Having moved to South Australia to challenge herself, Barwick is elated to be joining the GC SUNS.
“When [Head Coach] Cam [Joyce] told me the news, I was in shock,” Barwick said.
“I’m incredibly grateful that the SUNS have shown this belief in me. It’s an opportunity I can’t wait to take and I’m just excited to start with new teammates and get stuck in.”
Often seen on the wing for South Adelaide, GC SUNS Head Coach Cameron Joyce is excited about the versatility Barwick brings to his side.
“She has a great mix of speed and endurance with the ability to play in a number of positions,” Joyce said.
“She played her first SANFLW season with South Adelaide this year, improving each week and there’s still plenty of room for Elise to continue developing her game.”
“We’re excited about what she adds to our squad.”
