The SUNS have enjoyed the opportunity to recharge the batteries during the bye week and now have the mammoth task of heading to the Hawk’s Tasmanian fortress for round 14.
The run of bad luck continues to ease, with running defender Adam Saad expected to be available for the weekend after suffering a hamstring injury.
“Very pleasing to see Saady back out there training, he’s had a good couple of weeks under his belt," GM-Football Operations, Marcus Ashcroft, told the Optomo Injury Report.
“He’s training strongly tonight [Tuesday] with the team, expected to train again Thursday and be fit and ready to play on Sunday against the Hawks.”
Ruckman Dan Currie is also expected to be available for selection provided he is given the all-clear by medical staff.
“Dan needs to see the specialist on Thursday, he’s training again today [Tuesday],” said Ashcroft.
“But the surgeons report we’re thinking will be optimistic and he if he get through that and gets the tick of approval then he will play on the weekend.”
After suffering a severe concussion during the third quarter of the round 12 match against Richmond, Kade Kolodjashnij was cleared of any structural damage. However, he is yet to pass the concussion protocol and medical staff are erring on the side of caution given the severity of the knock.
“A severe concussion on the day, spent a night in hospital in Melbourne last weekend,” Ashcroft explained.
“He’s still going through the concussion protocol as late as today, and at this stage he’ll be unlikely."
Draftee Callum Ah Chee has also sustained a calf injury and will unlikely make the trip south.
“With Callum being a first year player we’re really conscious of not bringing him back to early, so at this stage he’s unlikely to play with a view to play the following week,” said Ashcroft.
