Gold Coast SUNS key defender Vivien Saad will be sidelined for the remainder of the 2024 AFLW season after sustaining a ruptured achilles.
The incident occurred at training earlier this week with subsequent scans confirming that Saad would be unavailable for selection again in 2024.
“Viv was involved in a non-contact incident at training earlier this week. She was sent for scans and those results have confirmed a ruptured achilles which will sideline her for the remainder of the season,” GC SUNS AFLW Physiotherapist Jasmine Herlihy said.
“She will now consult with a specialist around next steps.”
GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said, “It’s disappointing news for Viv and our entire program. I know that our staff and all of Viv’s teammates will ensure she’s provided all the support she needs throughout her rehabilitation.”
Saad has played 27 games for the SUNS since joining the club in 2022.
McConville joined the club during pre-season as an injury replacement player for Sienna McMullen and is the latest of the club’s Irish contingent to represent the SUNS in the AFLW alongside Clara Fitzpatrick, Niamh McLaughlin and Cara McCrossan.
