The team has recognised the upcoming condensed week of footy, which will feature three games in nine days, as a great chance to reorganise and refocus on their strengths.
SUNS midfielder Claudia Whitfort expressed her disappointment at the previous match against Geelong but is optimistic about the period ahead.
“It’s pretty disappointing to play the game like that in front of the fans at home. The review is just to reset and go back to what we are good at,” Whitfort said.
“I think we will mix it up and go back to what we are strong at.”
Despite the slow start, Whitfort emphasised the team’s toughness and their goal to turn the season around.
“It has been a disappointing start to the season, but we go into every game with confidence.”
SUNS captain Tara Bohanna agreed, emphasising the advantages of the condensed schedule.
“We are pretty embarrassed with what we put out on Saturday, so I think it’s good that we are going into a condensed fixture,” Bohanna said.
“We just need to do our due diligence and get to work on what we did right and what we did wrong.”
The SUNS will play Collingwood AFL Grand Final eve this Friday at the Swinburne Centre. One special feature of the next round is that the team will get the opportunity to spend time away as a group together in Melbourne before taking on Hawthorn next Wednesday.
“It’ll be good over the AFL Grand Final weekend to be in Melbourne and for some of the girls to experience that,” Bohanna said.
The SUNS are excited to get back on track and play their best football as they get ready for an important week of games.
The SUNS will play at the Swinburne Centre in Melbourne this Friday, September 27th against Collingwood, with the first bounce at 12:05pm. If you can’t make it the game, catch all the action on Fox Footy, Kayo and the Seven network (check your local guides).
