Gold Coast SUNS forward Keely Fullerton made her AFLW debut last Friday against Collingwood.

Although, the result wasn’t what the club wanted going down by three points, Fullerton expressed her experience and how exciting it was to debut.

“Getting to debut in Melbourne was really cool, even running out with the girls while the song played, it was pretty surreal,” Fullerton said.

Fullerton finished her debut with nine disposals, two tackles and one clearance, the debutant spoke about how important it was to her to have her family and friends at the game.

“It was awesome to have my family and friends come to support me,” Fullerton said.

Emerging from Bendigo, Fullerton played for the Bendigo Pioneers in the 2023 NAB League before joining the SUNS with Pick 36 in the 2023 AFLW Draft, also representing Vic Country at the 2023 U18 Girls Championships.

Moving away from home is a big moment in life for everyone, and Fullerton touched on her experience moving to the SUNS and her life so far on the Gold Coast.

“The Gold Coast has been amazing for me, the lifestyle, the weather and living right on the beach is amazing, I couldn’t ask for anything more,” Fullerton said.

After a slow start to the season the team is looking ahead to their game on Wednesday afternoon against the Hawks, hoping to bring momentum into the game after their tight three-point loss against the Pies.

“(The) message from the coaches was that our contest was really good, we just need to go back to what we are good at, and hopefully we can bring that out on Wednesday,” Fullerton said.

The Gold Coast SUNS play Hawthorn at Kinetic Stadium this Wednesday 2nd October at 5:15pm (AEST).
