The Gold Coast SUNS entered the second 2019 AFL Women’s Trade and Signing Period on Tuesday which will continue until 2pm on Friday April 26.
The SUNS are unable to make any further expansion signing in this time but are able to trade Draft selections.
Established AFLW clubs can to continue to retain up to 22 players on their primary list as well as trade players and/or Draft selections.
During the initial Trade and Signing Period (April 8-18), the four 2020 expansion clubs (Gold Coast Suns, Richmond, St Kilda, West Coast Eagles) were able to sign up to 12 players from 2019 AFLW lists.
Where they were not able to sign the full quota, they have been provided with priority selections to make up the full 12 signings.
The positioning of the priority selections took into consideration:
- An assessment of the expansion signings for each club
- The players selected by each club through the 17-year-old priority selection
- The need for existing clubs to receive selections in the Draft that reflect their finishing positions in 2019
Expansion Clubs will only be permitted to trade a maximum of one priority selection in any round where they have been provided with multiple priority picks.
In addition to this, Brisbane Lions, Fremantle, GWS Giants and Western Bulldogs will each be provided with a compensation selection at the commencement of Round Two based on the number of players lost to expansion clubs.
