Five SUNS have penned one-year contact extensions to remain on the Gold Coast for the 2025 AFLW season.

Streetsmarts SUNS Academy graduate Kiara Bischa and fellow 2023 draftees Keely Fullerton and Taya Oliver have put pen to paper, as has midfielder Ella Maurer and Irish defender Clara Fitzpatrick.

Maurer was a mainstay across the forward line and midfield for the SUNS in 2024, playing all 11 matches and finishing the season with a career-high 16 disposals in Week 10 against North Melbourne.

Fitzpatrick was another SUN deployed in several positions throughout the season. The Irishwoman was most commonly seen deep in defence and secured a top ten finish in the Club Champion count.

Gold Coaster Bischa made her AFLW debut in Round 1, going on to play seven matches deep in defence in her maiden season.

Bendigo product Fullerton was the club’s first selection in the 2023 AFLW Draft and earned a debut in her home state against Collingwood in Week 5, maintaining her spot thereafter to play seven matches in 2024.

Oliver also earned her AFLW debut during the club’s condensed fixture period in Melbourne. Her speed became a dangerous weapon for the SUNS in the latter stages of the season with the 23-year-old kicking four goals in six matches.

“We’re pleased to have re-signed another fantastic group of players for the 2025 season,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.

“Clara and Ella both add important experience to our side while Kiara, Keely and Taya all hopefully have long and prosperous AFLW careers ahead of them here on the Gold Coast.”

The five extensions follow confirmation earlier this week that Tasmanian Elise Barwick has also penned a new deal with the club, signing on until the end of 2026.
